In 2023 Republic Services folded four acquired Environmental Solutions brands, US Ecology, ACV Enviro, ECOFLO, and Sprint Industrial, under the Republic Services Master Brand
Project objective: build one unified best-in-class website, integrating the breadth of content, functionality and services from the acquired brands whilst delivering an experience worthy of a Fortune 300 company
The three main goals of the redesign were to bolster the Republic Services brand recognition through the website, create a singular web experience that is personalized to the clients diverse audiences, and enrich the website experience to encourage repeat visits and increase revenue
I personally developed a complex sitemap while working to reorganize and simplify navigation, created wireframes for several of the highest visited pages site-wide, and created eight detailed interaction spec documents to aid the development team in implementing the designs

Republic Services has an immensely diverse set of audiences – residential recycling and waste customers, business recycling and waste customers, business environmental solutions customers as well as employees, talent, investors and other stakeholders
They also provide an equally diverse and complex set of services ranging from basic waste/recycling management to highly complex sophisticated environmental solutions
UX challenge: Because of the large amount of personas and the technical jargon of the industry, users are shown, through metrics, to have trouble getting to their destination. We needed to get the right user to the right content, product, self-service, functionality, or salesperson allowing them to act
A solution to this and one component that I played a major role in the conception and construction of is the way-finder tool
The purpose of this component is to effectively guide the user to their intended destination by bridging the existing information gap through digestible questions
results & Metrics
At the point of writing this, the final site is still being constructed by developers. However, taking into account the clients' continued praise and the night-and-day transformation of the site, I can confidently say that all objectives and expectations were met and surpassed.
All-in-all redesigning and optimizing the Republic Services site required a level of discipline, thoroughness, and dedication to learning that is hard to experience in other products or teams. Every design detail and proposal were thoroughly reviewed and questioned, often in multiple rounds by senior stakeholders. Plus, the behaviors of said design details (seen in the specification document ) were recorded meticulously to ensure a seamless hand off to developers.
